WFCT 2026—the International Window Film Conference & Tint-Off—is the anchor trade event for tint, PPF, and architectural film operators who need education, competition, and vendor density in one trip. August 27–29, 2026 at the Henry B. González Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas, co-located with Auto Glass Week. Pre-conference education runs August 26.

If you have been “meaning to register,” the operational deadline is August 15, 2026—when early discount pricing typically closes on wfctevent.com. After that you are paying premium rates for the same badge.

This is the late-August operator playbook: what to book, what to watch, and how to leave with pipeline, not just tote bags.

Why WFCT matters in a crowded event year

2026 already delivered TINT BATTLES VI (Los Angeles, Aug 15–16) and regional trainings. WFCT is different:

| Dimension | TINT BATTLES | WFCT 2026 | | --- | --- | --- | | Primary vibe | Sport / creator / bracket | Conference + trade floor + certifications | | Buyer mix | Installers, creators, West Coast | National dealers, OEM glass, tint chains | | Best for | Compete + content | Buy, partner, recruit, legislate | | Co-location | Standalone | Auto Glass Week (ADAS, calibration, glass) |

Co-location is not trivia—it means your windshield film and ADAS customers share a building with glass buyers solving calibration headaches. That is cross-sell oxygen for shops running tint + glass + calibration bundles.

Registration and logistics (verified checklist)

  1. Register at wfctevent.com before Aug 15 for early pricing.
  2. Hotel: book River Walk / downtown walking distance to González Center—San Antonio August heat punishes wrong-side-of-freeway choices.
  3. Flights: arrive Aug 26 if you want pre-conference workshops; compete Aug 27–28 if entered in Tint-Offs.
  4. Badge pickup: morning of Aug 26 for education tracks; confirm competition check-in windows separately.
  5. Shop coverage: WFCT is a three-day commitment—schedule lead tech overlap before you promise customers Friday installs.

Barry Atkins (WFCT president / event sales, reachable via batkins@glass.com per public WFCT materials) is the escalation path for sponsorship, booth conflicts, and group registration—not for “which film is best” debates.

Program map: what to prioritize

Pre-conference (Aug 26) — Highest signal-per-hour for owners. Smaller rooms, working installers, fewer booth giveaways. Sit front row for law, warranty, and commercial architectural sessions if you split residential/auto.

Conference days (Aug 27–29)

  • Tint-Offs and wrap/PPF competitions: treat as R&D under pressure—note film brands in pit lanes, not just winners.
  • Family Film Day: pipeline play for multi-generational shops and workforce recruiting—bring your apprentice story.
  • Hall of Fame / awards: relationship capital—who gets recognized tells you who is shaping dealer politics for 2027.
  • Expo floor: block two ninety-minute slots; otherwise you will “browse” and buy nothing.

Auto Glass Week overlap — Even if you do not install glass, walk the ADAS / calibration aisle once. Your tint customers are already asking about camera-safe films and recalibration post-install.

Operator schedule template

| Time | Owner / GM | Lead installer | | --- | --- | --- | | Aug 26 AM | Pre-con: pricing & warranty law | Hands-on workshop | | Aug 26 PM | Vendor meetings (scheduled) | Tint-Off check-in / practice | | Aug 27 | Dealers + distributor renewals | Compete or shadow Tint-Off | | Aug 28 | Hire / recruit conversations | Advanced technique sessions | | Aug 29 AM | Final orders + freight quotes | Family Film Day or wrap track | | Aug 29 PM | Fly home with CRM notes entered | Debrief SOP updates |

Enter every meaningful conversation into CRM same day—WFCT leads decay by 50% within ten days if uncontacted.

Competition strategy (Tint-Offs / PPF / wrap)

San Antonio humidity changes shrink behavior vs. Los Angeles dry heat—if you competed at TINT BATTLES VI, re-dial heat profiles before WFCT rounds.

Judging themes that repeat year over year:

  • Clean edges on dot-matrix (no blade gouges)
  • Pattern efficiency on PPF (waste = time = score)
  • Customer communication in some team events—practice your 30-second film explanation

Do not enter every category to “see what happens.” Pick one discipline aligned with your shop’s marketing story.

Sponsors, booths, and buying discipline

WFCT’s floor consolidates film manufacturers, plotters, software, and tools. Use this buying filter:

  1. Will it cut bay time >10% in 60 days? If no, defer.
  2. Is training included or upsold? Hidden training cost kills ROI.
  3. Does the vendor have a pit crew at competitions? Presence correlates with installer support when jobs go wrong.

Content and marketing while on-site

  • Day 1: post “here to learn” story—authentic beats polished.
  • Day 2: one process reel (hands, heat, squeegee)—no competitor faces without permission.
  • Day 3: takeaway lesson for customers (“what we learned about ceramic IR in Texas heat”).

Tag @WFCTevent and film partners where appropriate; do not live-stream proprietary booth demos without rep approval.

Two-week sprint from TINT BATTLES to WFCT

Shops hitting both August peaks should:

  1. Aug 16–18: rest hands, log LA contacts, edit content.
  2. Aug 19–22: confirm WFCT registration, hotel, competition entry.
  3. Aug 23–25: prep San Antonio film kit; different humidity = different shrink notes.
  4. Aug 26: land in Texas for education day.

Miss the sprint and you arrive competition-fatigued with empty CRM—the worst combo.

Risks and how to avoid them

  • Over-scheduling: you cannot attend every session—pick three must-wins.
  • Freight impulse: last-day booth deals are real; shipping cost to your bay may not be.
  • Ignoring glass track: ADAS ignorance is now a liability issue for tint shops touching windshields.
  • No follow-up SOP: assign one person to CRM entry nightly—non-negotiable.

Bottom line

WFCT 2026 is the industry’s late-August operating system update—register before August 15, co-locate your calendar with Auto Glass Week, and run San Antonio like a buying + hiring + learning mission. Barry Atkins and the WFCT team built the container; your shop still has to convert the week into margin, talent, and technique back home.
